Well, after buying this bike last year and taking the previous owners word that the 12k maintenance had been performed I finally get around to tearing this thing down.  The previous house didn't have a garage so I couldn't do much outside of fluid changes to the bike, but now that I have a nice garage and the wife acknowledges that she can only occupy/use a small fraction of such, I set out to check this bike out.

I'm still trying to clear out the clutter from moving into this place so space is still limited and all of my tools are not out of storage yet but meh, time to crack this cherry!.

At over 16,000 miles and zero for maintenance records, I was expecting the absolute worse for belts.  When I pulled off the first section of the horizontal belt cover I completely expected to see frayed kevlar and rubber all over the place.  Not so.

That one looks bad from the fringe off the edges but it's not bad at all.  I A) have to get a better camera and B) the face of the belts looks pristine, which I still have to get a picture of when I have better lighting.

The internals of the horizontal looked spotless.  Lemme say, I was a little disappointed since  I looked forward to this work for months, but then again was a little happy that I had some time so that the temp in the garage would warm up!!!!  Grin

I'll pull the verts this weekend when I have a few more minutes.  I'm expecting the same but still want to have the the piece of mind.   Next comes valve check.  This might have to wait a tad longer

Here's a pic of it partially torn down.  More parts will be flying off soon.  I still have the typical battery charging problem so electrical work will be in the very near future.

More to come.

Yes, I will probably replace my belts this winter as well.  I've been told that belts should be replaced every 2 years.  Since the Paul Smart has only been ridden last year (6K miles), but sat around waiting for me to buy it for 3 years, I guess it's time to change.  About $90 for piece of mind.  I probably have another 6K before I check the valves (and hope I don't need to adjust until 15K+).
